Wasda Somalia, with the generous support of the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), and in partnership with Save the Children Somalia, recently conducted community sessions at Wamo PHU nutrition site focused on promoting Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) practices and positive parenting. These activities are part of our ongoing commitment to improving the health and well-being of children and their families across Somalia.

During the sessions, caregivers were engaged in interactive discussions on the importance of optimal breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices. The team emphasized the first 1,000 days of a child’s life as a critical window for growth and development, providing mothers and caregivers with practical tips to ensure adequate nutrition and prevent malnutrition-related complications.

In addition to nutrition, the sessions highlighted positive parenting approaches that foster a nurturing and protective home environment. Caregivers learned about responsive caregiving, the importance of play and early stimulation, and ways to strengthen the emotional bond with their children. By empowering caregivers with this knowledge, we aim to create stronger, healthier, and more resilient families.

Wasda Somalia remains dedicated to supporting communities with integrated health, nutrition, and protection interventions. We thank all partners and participants for their active involvement and look forward to continuing our collective efforts to improve child health and development in Somalia.
