We recently conducted an important Infant and Young Child Feeding IYCF session at Tulobarwaqo Health Center in Dobley, as part of the SIERP initiative by Wasda Somalia and caresom, funded by BHA/USAID. This session brought together caregivers and community members to raise awareness on best practices for infant nutrition and child health.
During the session, we emphasized the critical importance of early initiation of breastfeeding immediately after birth, followed by exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child’s life. Participants learned how exclusive breastfeeding provides essential nutrients and immunity that are vital for healthy growth and development.
The discussion also covered the continuation of breastfeeding up to two years and beyond, highlighting its benefits for both mother and child. Timely and appropriate complementary feeding was another key topic, ensuring children receive adequate nutrients when breastfeeding alone is no longer sufficient.
This session is part of ongoing efforts under the SIERP program to improve child nutrition outcomes in Dobley and surrounding communities. We thank our partners @WASDA, @caresom, and funders BHA/USAID for their continued support in empowering families with vital knowledge for healthier futures.
